New Pokemon manga will run in Shonen Sunday

16 01 2011

A new Pokemon manga series will run in Shonen Sunday, according to Jisedai World Hobby Fair 2011 posters and ads.

The series had previously run in Corocoro magazine, an anthology aimed at younger audiences. The move is aimed at garnering an older audience for the series.

Corocoro is one of the few magazine anthologies to buck the recent slump in manga sales. The move is presumably to help boost sales for Shonen Sunday, which sold 678,917 copies in 2010. Corocoro sold 950,834.

No title for the series has been announced.

New Azumanga Daioh pages coming

22 04 2009

jg_azumangaFans of Azumanga Daioh! certainly have reason to rejoice. The quirky manga by Azuma Kiyohiko announced recently that he will be drawing new 16-page additions to the 10th anniversary editions of the manga in Japan, with the new pages to first debut in Monthly Shonen Sunday.

Azumanga Daioh is a manga that features a series of vignettes about over-the-top high school teachers and students. The presentation is very similar to newspaper comics in the U.S., with 4-panel stories. Azuma is also the author of Yotsubato, a quirky manga about a young green-haired foreign girl in Japan and the very mundane, very hilarious high-jinks she gets herself into.
