The official Youtube channel for the Rina Takeda film KG has posted a new trailer with English subtitles.

Takeda, who played the female lead in “High Kick Girl,” somewhat resumes her role in “KG,” which revolves around a 200-year old black belt that was owned by famous karate master Soujirou Kurenai. Passed down for generations, the belt is now at the center of a battle that stars the high-kicking Takeda.

The film is set to release Feb. 5 in Japan.

The Tatami Critic: High Kick Girl

13 05 2010

Several recent American martial arts releases have tried to take genre to higher levels than simply chop-socky kung fu fare: and failed. Perhaps the most recent example comes from Red Belt, which opened many plot twist avenues only to get lost in its own tangle of possible themes.

Coming from overseas is a film that avoids this recent trend, instead favoring a fairly a straight-forward plot and theme. High Kick Girl, while unfortunately carrying an ominous title more suggestive of hentai antics than actual martial arts, keeps things simple: Karate fighting at its best.

Check it! High Kick Girl

8 06 2009

JG High KickReleased on May 30 in Japan, a English subtitled trailer for the martial arts film High Kick girl has been released, preceding an intended international release.

The film, despite sounding like an excuse for multiple up-skirt shots, is actually a serious martial arts film, with actors who are legitimate martial artists. HKG star Rina Takeda is a black belt karate champion, and fellow cast member and AKB48 idol group member Sayaka Akimoto is a nidan (second degree black belt) in Aikido.

The story follows Kei (Takeda) who joins a martial arts school but quickly proves she’s the toughest fighter in the dojo. However, when her sensei refuses to give her a black belt until she masters all the forms, she joins a fighting group instead, where she gets all the fighting she can handle. But when she discovers that the group’s plans involve destroying her sensei, she quickly shifts gears to stop them.
