Evangelion 2.0 coming to U.S. theaters

Funimation, Cinema Asia Releasing and Eleven Arts announced plans Monday to bring Evangelion 2.0: You Can (not) Advance to American Theaters in January 2011.

The companies haven’t said how many theaters or what locations the movie will play at.

Eva 2.0 was one of the five highest grossing films in Japan in 2009, taking in over $40 million in box office totals.

The film is the second in a four-part series adapting the original 90s anime, taking a slightly different twist on the story.

Eva cell phone sells 20,000 in five hours

evaphone2Fans looking to get one of the Hideaki Anno designed NERV cellphones may be out of luck — the limited edition phone sold all 20,000 units in just five hours of it being offered for pre-order.

The phone, which features a NERV inteface and logo on the outside among many Evangelion tie-ins, will be featured in the upcoming film Evangelion 2.0: You Can (not) Advance.

While pre-orders for the 90,000 yen phone (about $900) are finished, another 10,000 units will be sold in stores, also likely to be sold out fast.





Details released for Eva 2.0 phone

Eva keitai 2Details have been released for the NTT Docomo’s Evangelion phone to tie-in with the latest Evangelion movie remake, Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance.

The 135-gram phone has a 3.3-inch display, 10 megapixel camera and a holographic NERV logo on the black matte case. It also comes with a special NERV case/stand and a keitai strap. Users can choose from several NERV-themed menu layouts.

About 20,000 units will be available for pre-order, with 10,000 more available for sale, only sold from June to July.

New Eva 2.0 phone model announced

JG Eva phone 2Fans eagerly anticipating the newest in the four-film Evangelion remake have even more reason to get excited — now said fans can have their own Eva 2.0 phone.

Announced by NTT Docomo, the “NERV only” phone will have a specific function in the films, though details haven’t yet been released. Eva creator and director Hideaki Anno and Studio Khara had their hand in the phone’s design. 

More details of the new phone model are expected to be released from NTT Docomo as the film’s release approaches June 27.

JG Eva 2.0 3In anticipation of the upcoming second Evangelion film, Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance, the official Evangelion web site has released a new 85 second trailer for the film.

Evangelion 2.0, or known as Eva 2.0 for short, is the second part of a four-part remake of the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion, which brought a mixture of praise and criticism for its creator, Hideaki Anno. The ending of this anime series, which saw the episodes go from something of a monster of the week show to a highly esoteric, philosophical debate mirroring the creator’s own existential crisis, was so hated by some fans that he received death threats.

New voice actress announced for Eva 2.0

jg_evangelion1According to Anime News Network, voice actress Maaya Sakamoto is slated to play a role in the upcoming Evangelion 2.0 film. The films are remakes of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion storyline. 

Sakamoto will play new character Makinami Mari Illustrious, the first and last names being derived from World War II battleships. The information was first reported in the paper publication EVA-EXTRA01.

Evangelion 2.0 trailer

jg_evangelion-20Several versions have surfaced for the new Evangelion 2.0 Movie, based on the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, which garnered a love it or hate it response from fans (particularly the rather esoteric ending). 

For some reason, trailers for the film have been guarded items, and in fact the latest was posted , only to be made region specific. Two trailers exist for the film, and are now available here (note: you need to download Microsoft Silverlight to view): Link 1
