Black Jack manga to sell online

21 04 2009

jg_black-jackFans of the manga Black Jack ni Yoroshiku (Say Hello to Black Jack in English, though Yoroshiku means please be kind to me) have reason to rejoice: The manga’s creator, Shuho Sato, has announced that he will be publishing his work online for 30 yen a chapter (about 30 cents US currency). Fans will be able to purchase each chapter and read it for up to one year. Older works will also be sold, at 10 yen (10 cents) apiece.

Could this be the future of manga sales? It certainly will make it easier for overseas fans of manga who enjoy reading in the original Japanese, especially since they’ve never been a large enough audience to warrant marketing to (anyone who’s tried to find Japanese language manga in the U.S. knows this first hand). The format should be especially nice for the Japanese, who really can’t buy and keep too much manga considering the size of average living space.
