Bamboo Blade manga ends in September

Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine announced Friday that the Bamboo Blade manga series will be ending with the Sept. 3 issue.

The series is about a kendo instructor who is challenged to a duel by a former classmate to a duel between their female students. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have any… yet.

The series began in 2007, and the anime was licensed for North America.





Kannagi resumes in October

The manga series Kannagi will resume in the November issue of Monthly Comic Rex, due out in October.

The creator, Eri Takenashi, took a leave from the series in January 2009 due to health issues.

Kannagi is the story of an art student who brings a goddess to life after carving a statue of her from a kannagi tree.

My Darling is a Foreigner coming to DVD

My Darling is a Foreigner explores the difficulties of inter-cultural love.

My Darling is a Foreigner, an adaptation of a autobiographical manga series by Saori Uguri, is coming to region 2 DVD with English.

The movie tells the story of a Japanese woman’s relationship to an American writer, and the trials and tribulations they face with cultural differences and a father-in-law that doesn’t approve.

The film stars Japanese-fluent actor Jonathan Sherr and Mao Inoue star in this adaptation. The 2-disc DVD is due out this October.

To Love Ru promo streaming

The newest promo for the upcoming OVA version of To Love Ru — Motto To Love Ru — is streaming at the anime’s website.

The promo features the first opening theme for the new series, “Loop the Loop” by KOTOKO.

The series will bring back all of the voice actors from the first series, and many of the key production aspects as well. Atsushi Ootsuki will direct and Yuichi Ouka will return from the first series to work on character designs.

The series is scheduled to release this fall.





Bakuman’s inside manga to run in Shonen Jump

Rakko 11-gou (Otter 11), a gag manga in the fictional world of Bakuman, will appear as a 15-page story in the upcoming issue of Shonen Jump on Aug. 9.

The gag-comedy appears within the story of Bakuman, two college students trying to become manga creators.

The Bakuman manga series has been licensed for North America and an anime series has been greenlit for fall.
